Browsing through my favorite design firm’s body of work, i stumbled upon a project they just completed for a place around the corner from where i live: The Detroit Institute of Arts. For those of you who’ve never visited Detroit, the DIA is the city’s biggest museum. It just underwent an extensive six year, $158 million renovation that sought, among other things, to rethink the display of the museum’s permanent collection… Which is where Lisa Strausfeld comes in.

Strausfeld and her team worked with the museum’s education and interpretation department to develop a suite of permanent media-based interactive exhibitions that would help make the collection more accessible through the use of technology.

If you’re into experiencing your visit to the museum more intuitively, then look no further. This video shows you all the bells and whistles at the DIA. Trust me, they’re cool.

Take a look at some of the nice pieces over at ‘Retro Thing’.

Funky. Love all the curves in post-modern utilities. I feel even further in the future than i do with some of the things that are more common today.
