Bon Appetit

I guess it bears mentioning that every time i stand patiently behind someone in the check-out lane or peruse the selection of magazines at my local bookstore, i’m charmed to death by Bon Appetit magazine which underwent a full revamp not too long ago.

The new doo takes the magazine from a look that screams of southern cuisine and swaps it out for fresh editorial design, illustration and typography in addition to a new cover design/masthead. Not only is the readership going to increase (me thinks, heh) BUT i’d say this puts them on par with pretty much anything Martha Stewart is up to right now. Let’s face it, in a world that’s practically run by the queen bee herself the last thing anyone needs is another magazine that relishes the joy of preparing honey glazed hams. Give me contemporary eats any day, thanks.

Fortunately, that’s what Bon Appetit has managed to do. And did anyone notice that qusai-Mrs. Eaves header on the cover? Its like she married Claredon, and their offspring was the sweetest melding of serifs and style i have ever seen. Yummmm.

My favorite Jacket Designer (yep… there is life beyond Chip Kidd… and thank god) is featured on Barnes & Noble’s studio nook.

I’m surprised i didn’t come by this sooner. I’ve already wasted 10 days or so when i could’ve been drooling over this clip, hitting the refresh button until my fingers bled. John has a dreamy aesthetic the runs throughout his entire body of work. Almost always, i can pick out something he’s made clear across the room amidst a sea of competitive novels.

He’s one of my heros so show him some love and watch the darn video please.

A Scene from ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’

Are you the guy that sits 2 feet behind me in *any* movie theatre loudly pointing out all those factual scientific errors? Like most fans who seem unable to suspend their belief in exchange for a little entertainment factor, Sci-fi film-goers run the gamut. Any age, any size, any theatre. And what they notice are things that your average fan who pays $10 a ticket isn’t going to pick up on.

So here are 5 movies they didn’t complain about. Imagine… Hollywood getting their facts straight?
Ziiiinggg. Didn’t see that one coming, huh?

The ‘Creative Pro’ section on Apple’s website has a nice feature on the overall experience for the photographer who chooses to use Aperture as their main tool for processing their work.

All chit-chat aside, what’s even better than reading about their creative process, is seeing the work they produce.
