TIME Magazine’s feature on “Self-Injury in Japan“, a photo essay by Photographer Kosuke Okahara, locates a world of deep despair among young Japanese women.

So sad to see people suffering from these feelings. It clashes with my ideals about what it must be like to live in a Japanese society. The story goes onto admit that most of these traumas come from extreme anxiety and depression.

You’re able to see how much someone is capable of putting themselves through. Moreover, it suggests that no one is perfect. Least of all, on the inside.
