Many people came to celebrate with us

(l to r) Vickie, Anika, Marilyn & Genna are taking a break to pose for the camera

Three of our long-time clients/friends (l to r – Pat Brockway 1995, Pat Lehman, 1992 and Sally Brown, 1997)

The new Trent Design Midtown Detroit office was filled with laughter and conversation throughout the afternoon and into the night. More than 100 friends and clients, new and old came to congratulate Marilyn Trent and her team, see the office, enjoy the food and, of course, taste the now famous Trentini.

The all-mighty Trentini made with real grapefruit!

PS— For those of you interested in the Trentini, we’ve added the recipe for it here:

INGREDIENTS
• 2 grapefruit wedges (peeled and skinned)
• 1/2 tsp. finely chopped mint (adjust to taste)
• 2 oz. Absolut® Ruby Red Vodka
• Squeeze 1/2 of lemon
• 1 oz. Simple Syrup (adjust to taste)

DIRECTIONS
Muddle the grapefruit and mint and put in a martini shaker. Add ice to shaker—add the rest of the  ingredients and shake until chilled. Serve in a martini glass with a mint sprig and a peeled and skinned grapefruit wedge. Enjoy!

Tenacious Rascals Entering New Territory

Never a dull moment around our design and communications world in Downtown Rochester. We have taken the plunge and opened a second office in Midtown Detroit. For those of you who know and those of you who don’t know; Midtown is turning into a mecca for change and growth. At a time in history when you wonder where the next ‘good’ news story is going to come from, this one is it.

I’ve always been a big fan of the cultural center, because of my connection to the arts and the clients I work with in Detroit. When space in 71 Garfield became available, I decided to put our skin in the game. Being here gives us great visibility and we like it that we are a part of the revitalization of Detroit.

The building we have moved into is 71 Garfield. It is an historic property built in 1922, as a hotel where the jazz musicians hung out. It was recently renovated to attract artists and other creative enterprises with live-and-work studio spaces as well as commercial offices.

Stop in and visit, if you are in the area. They are building a beautiful ‘greenway’ that connects us to Downtown Detroit and is pedestrian friendly.Trent Design's New Office In Midtown Detroit

There’s a fascinating article this month in the pages of FastCompany that talks about a new generation in advertising and what we should be aware of to evolve and share in its practices. You can read more here.

“First the news business, then the music business, then advertising. Is there any industry I get involved in that doesn’t get destroyed?”

– Touts Andy Nibley, former CEO of Ad Agency Marsteller

The story goes on to discuss the kind of agency that could emerge to thrive on minimum overhead and still succeed as an industry free from the problems of its past. Not surprisingly, this is the kind of world that influences opportunities for its most talented advertising wunderkinds. This is a world where advertising is smaller and perhaps,
more competitive.

Read what metromode has to say about Trent Design’s Smart Growth…

For most companies the mantra is: grow big and grow fast. Of course, given the current economy, any growth would be a blessing. But what if slow growth were the long term strategy? With a focus on work/life issues, purpose, and entrepreneurial pride, some Metro Detroit firms have consciously decided they’d rather be the tortoise than the hare.

This week, one of the TD Staffers brought a rescue cat to the studio. We’re still picking out names but so far, it’s between Zoey, Howie, Chuck, Howard, and my favorite, Mr. Burns. This is a hairy decision and we’ll let you know when we’ve reached an agreement.

More pictures please:

Until then, if anybody is interested in adopting a people-centric cat, Zoey… er… whats-his-name… is accepting bids for a new owner. Personally, we’ve always wanted an office mascot. Maybe we can convince Marilyn to keep him around.
